WWC / Ireland Singles Trip

Tuesday is upon us, and it is time to present this weeks Weekly Words Challenge again. The oven fried honey Tink of Pickled Beef chooses the weekly words for us to play with. This week she wanted pictures of PAPER and CERAMIC, which caused me a ton of problems... I still got some pics out there, but forgive me if they aren't all that interesting this week.

What is interesting, however - is this:

A good friend of mine, the other day, sent me a message wondering if I'd like to go to Ireland this summer with him and a couple of single women.

Now, having some Irish blood running through my veins, I've always wanted to go there some time. And, the fact that two, unknown to me, single women would be accompanying us on that particular trip... this should be a simple enough answer, right?

That answer being: "Hell, YEAH!"

But, it's not that simple. For the following reasons:

A) I've just lost my job, meaning my finances are not very secure yet - not until I know what will happen in the future.

B) I thought the trip was way more expensive that it should be... not sure it's good value for money.

C) If, indeed, I decide to try my luck over across the pond again - I need to save up every single penny I can find.

D) I don't know these two women - have no idea what they look like, or how much I would enjoy their company... If he tells me they're Victoria's Secret models or something... that would make the choice SO much easier... (Yeah, right - as if...)

Now, I need to make a decision fairly quickly - or someone else will take my place.

I would really, really love to go to Ireland! What'd'ya'll think? Let me know - you know how much I value your opinions...

While making up your own minds about what decision I should make, feast your eyes on my contribution to this weeks WWC:

PS. Again, with the slideshow - hit the 'pause' button to view the pics at your own pace.

There. That's it for this week. Hopefully Tink will provide some words that I find a little easier for next week... I think this was the most difficult one yet in my WWC career.

Oh, and as soon as Tink posts her own and announces the words for next week... as usual I will update this post and let you know what they are... of course - If I forget, you can always head over to Pickled Beef and get the words from the original source!

Now, I'm outta here. Headed over to my Aunt's place to wish her a happy birthday. Just a small gathering with her son (my cousin Andy), and his family for some coffee and birthday cake. Another one of my cousins is celebrating her birthday today as well, but she lives further away, so she'll have to make do with a phonecall later tonight.

I'll be back (as the governor of California used to say).
-------------
UPDATE: Words for next week will be DOMESTIC and FOREIGN. That should be interesting!

I have the same book collection!

I have no desire to ever leave the country.... however if I *did* it would be to go to Ireland. Specifically I'd love to see Leap Castle.

I can't tell you to go because I want to see you settled and happy (back in the states). Something about the way you write about the states tells me you really want it....

I finally got my passport over the weekend and travel is on my mind but money always stops me. Honestly it doesn't sound like you will be upset if you don't go. Maybe getting some future plans in order should happen first. Otherwise you would just panic the entire trip and not fully enjoy yourself.

Love the torn envelope pic - really cool!

The trip? Well, I tend to play it somewhat conservatively with finances, especially when I don't have a job! It would be one thing if the trip were being offered at some bargain basement price, or if you knew you would be employed in the next 14 dats (although how would requesting a vacation at a new job work out?), but neither of these is true.

For me, this would boil down to priorities v. desires. If your priority is to move back to the states and/or financial security, then Ireland needs to be put on hold ... even if it is a great opportunity!

Insomia was my all time favorite! I had it in paperback but I wrecked my car and spilled a Biggie all over it.

The words were challenging today, I admit!

Just cause you don't go to Ireland with him doesn't mean you won't ever go. Wait if it doesn't feel right. Waiting is hard to do but it pays off most of the time!

Anonymous said...

I love your book collection, I love books. I do read all the time, one of my dear things to do when I am not blogging or doing homework. hmm I would say wait!

I think you would enjoy it more if you could do what you want, when you want, and spend all you want!

Plus, this is your jealous blogger friend, you may get something you cannot give back!!!! LOL!!

I say go! Throw financial caution to the wind and go! It may be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Ireland is beautiful and you never know, one of these girls may end up being "THE ONE." ;)

OMFG, you MUST go to ireland!!!! pleeeeease do it!

anyway, side note: i have all of those stephen king books too.

Sparkling Red said...

How much might you potentially regret not going on the trip? Which possibility is worse - the possibility of the regret, or the possibility of having a mediocre time and feeling that you'd overspent?

I probably wouldn't go, but I tend to be overly cautious.

Anonymous said...

Wow you got the giant key! Now you can go to the bonus level. I hear it is full of giant gold coins. Your employment problems are solved. Sure beats jumping and banging your head against giant bricks for coins! I mean working at a furniture store...

You should take the giant key around town with you. Go up to locked doors and ask people "How do I get into the secret level?" Then you hold the key pointing at the door. "Hmm it's not working... Is this the bonus level? Do I have to go through the green pipe to get there?"

It seems there are two parts to your Irish situation. Protestant and Catholic... Er... I mean one is you want to go to Ireland. The other is meeting single women. Let's deal with Ireland itself first.

I took a look in my 1957 world atlas. It seems that Ireland is in the exact same place today. I guess that means it's not going anywhere any time soon. So there's no sense of urgency in taking a trip there. It'll wait for you.

Going with strangers might be a problem if they have a different agenda than you. You also might not get along with them. You're better off to pick who you go with. Besides if you don't go you increase you pal's chance of having a three way.

As for meeting single women this approach seems a little extreme. Last time I checked Sweden is swarming with hot blondes. As far as gorgeous Irish women go I hear it's a regular potato famine over there. If the women going on the trip are single it is for a reason. If they were "smoking hot" they would not be single.

You're better off making up a budget for dating. Scrape together your cash and get some new clothes. Get your hair done all nice. Clean yourself up and look your best. Then make an all out effort to attract some hot women right at home.

You already know where the hot women are in your town. If it does not work out with one of them you move on to the next. If it does not work out on the trip you're in trouble. The awkwardness will turn Ireland into the expensive trip from hell.

Here's my weekly word challenge. The words are Swedish and Vagina. Okay hop to it!

Happy Birthday to your cousin. By the way... Is she hot?

Oh... I'm bad... Very... Bad... Sorry... Can't help it...

Enjoy the cake and thanks for the key!

Guilty Secret said...

Maybe you could ask your friend if you could meet the girls to see how you all get on before deciding whether to go...?

Anonymous said...

Okay well I'm on lunch break so I can't check other comments to see what everyone else said. Although, seeing Guilty's just above mine, I do like that idea.

But, here's my opinion and what I would do if it were me. GO. Who cares what the girls look like or even if you mesh with them. Traveling is traveling and you can always lose them if you need to.

Of course, that's coming from someone who loves traveling and never turns down a single opportunity (not that I get that many).

If you decide you DO want to move to the states to start afresh, then yes, this trip might set you back a bit, but in my opinion, it's worth it. Even if you have to stick around Sweden a little longer to get the money to go to the States, you will always be glad you took the trip.

At least, that would be my thoughts and opinions if I were in your situation. But like I said, I'm ALWAYS pro-travel and living life to the fullest, especially where sponteneity is involved.

I forgot to mention that I LOVED your paper pics! You got some great angles! I especially love the paperback one, where you're flipping the pages. Makes me want to curl up on the couch and read!!

I forgot to ask, what is that list of US cities for? Thoughts on where to move maybe?

Jahooni said...

i am new here REH and for the last couple posts i read it was that you had lost your job. And now Ireland? To get laid, or what? With strangers... what? Did I read that right?
Hymnnn... i dunno on this one. I say that you wait. Ireland has been there for thousands of years it isn't going anywhere but hymnn... global warning. nevermind. **giggles**

R.E.H. said...

Leighann: No desire? To leave the country that is? Oh, I love to travel - I want to see every corner of this beautiful planet we live on.

And, yes, moving back to the States is something that's been on top of my wish list for a long time now... I miss it!

Knight: Now that you've got your passport, you should get a ticked to Sweden... I'll take you around to see all the sights (that should take all of fifteen minutes) ;)

Dana: Yeah, the financial aspect of this idea is really what's holding me back right now. If I knew I could afford it, I would've booked my ticket by now.

Butterfly Girl: Insomnia was definitely one of his better books, although I wasn't entirely happy with the final part of it... felt a little like he lost control of it all.

I know it's not my last chance to go to Ireland, but if I do move back to the States it is a much longer, and even more expensive trip...

Single In The City: I love to read... just don't read as much as I used to. I'm way behind on King... the dude writes them darn books faster than I can keep up reading them...

You jealous? Now... who's the one who said something about a date on their blog? How do you think that makes me feel? ;)

Tink said...

Wait, what was that list for? I saw "Florida"! Are there any Stephen King books you haven't read? Which is your favorite? All these questions!

R.E.H. said...

Pookie Sixx: Yeah... I'm kind of leaning towards that decision. Even if the girls aren't going to be any One's, we could have some fun.... uhm... you know - walking around seeing all the beautiful sights and tasting their beer and whiskey, getting drunk... heading back to the hotel and... you know how it goes ;)

Tequila Mockingbird: I figured you would say that, knowing you're Irish as well ;)

Wanna come? That way I'd know there'd at least be ONE woman worth my time along ;)

Sparkling Red: I'm thinking the same. The one thing that I have left to ponder, is this. There would be other trips I could make at the same cost, which to me sounds a lot more fun and worth the money.

But, then this is a friend I know and would enjoy travelling with - plus, there is the prospect of two single women tagging along.

It's a difficult decision.

Unsigned: First of all... did you play (a little too much?) Mario Bros. back in the day? ;)

Ireland isn't going anywhere ;) I like that. But, one can never be too sure an opportunity like this will present itself again. It does sound like a lot of fun.

The agenda itself, would of course be to see the sights and sample the atmosphere of my ancestral home.

Besides if you don't go you increase you pal's chance of having a three way.

And how is that supposed to make me feel better? :D

And, while there are a lot of hot women around here - you pointed one thing out already - if they're hot, they're spoken for.

B) If they are hot and not spoken for, they have they are generally so stuck up and self centered that they make me sick. Any "regular" looking guy like myself is given the cold shoulder when trying to talk to them - let alone try asking them out.

That's the one thing that I've never really liked about the majority of Swedish women. Of couse what I wrote is generally speaking, and exceptions do exist - but on average; That is the truth about Swedish chicks.

I've always had so much better "luck" with foreign, and in particular American women... why is that?

Your weekly words challenge should qualify for when I start up a new X-Rated blog ;)

Oh, my cousin is married, with kids... which one by the way? Well, they're both hooked with kids (one married, the other not believing in the holy matrimony).

They're both hot, of course - they're related to me! ;)

Guilty Secret: My friend only knows one of those two girls - barely. They met at a wedding, and have e-mailed a little since. They live quite far from my home town. Pictures maybe? Nude ones? ;)

R.E.H. said...

Emmeline (x2): Yeah, I know. What the girls look like is of no concern really... although it would be a big plus if they were hot ;)

The thing is that I've got my vacation pay coming in from my "old" job, so the money is there... but I had planned to put them into savings for the "big move"... if I spend them all on this trip... then I'd have to find another way to get those savings started.

Oh, and glad you liked the pictures!

Knight: Nah... figured questions would arise on that one. Basically, those are just one page where I jotted down the different conferences of MLB - because I've been working on a little Baseball Sim game. Another one of my grand masterplans of making some money ;)

Jahooni: Ha! You make me laugh!

One doesn't need to go to Ireland to get laid... not even if it were with strangers (although I might have to get out of town to be sure I ain't bein' recognized).

Tink: I gave the answer to your first question to Knight a little further up.

I've read almost all of King's books, but I've fallen behind the last few years - so I've missed his last 4 books, I think. I'll have to catch up.

My favorites are "The Shining", "Bag of Bones" and "Gerald's Game". I also loved his Richard Bachman book "Rage" (which I don't think anyone has the movie rights for, and which I would obtain should I get the opportunity).

Jay said...

Tough decision to make on Ireland. Isn't that the way it always works though? These opportunities always come up at the worst time.

Normally I would say that you will regret not going to Ireland much more when your forty than you would regret spending the money. And while Ireland isn't going anywhere, if you do move back to the states that would possibly make Ireland that much further out of reach.

But, on the other hand, if going to Ireland means giving up on you plans and hope and dreams, then fuck Ireland.

Yeah, I'm no help at all. Sorry dude.

Great pics as usual. Love the torn page pic and the pic of you thumbing through the book.

Also, I came by here earlier today, but the slide show wasn't working so I had to wait and come back to get to see the pics. That's why I'm so late.

Ahhhh, (gotta' wait for the r.e.h. fix to kick in)......okay, still a little weak but I'm beginning to feel better.

Did you wonder where I was? [If you didn't miss me you can just pretend. I take fake attention.]

IRELAND!!??!!! Can you take your lap top with you? If NOT, then NO WAY. I vote a great big fat, loud NO. [Re-thinking how selfish I am being....]

Well...if your buddy guy can send you a pic of the Gals and which one he isn't claiming for himself....and, IF the Gal he's offering to you is really cute and might could be your future life partner, and....IF you'll still move back to America after the trip so we might have a [an unlikely but more hopeful] chance of running into you at the mall or something....then....maybe...you should go get lucky and enjoy the trip.

I think you did beautifully with the challenge - I especially like the torn edges of the envelope and the ceramic pizza plate. And hey, I don't think we are going to find next week's words easier - foreign and domestic? So far, all I've got is postage *sigh*

No, you're not much help on the Ireland issue, LOL ;) - You've got the same train of thought that I do... hehe.

Farmer's Wife: If I go, I'll try to pop into some internet café and say "Hi" ;)

Did you mean the microscopic chance of running into me at the mall? Ha! Or are you going to stalk me and try to find out which mall I frequent! ;)

Chatty: Welcome!

Glad you liked the pics. Yes, next week will be tough too, but I think they will be a lot of fun as well!

Farmer's Wife: I know you're not going to believe this, but I already thought about beer for next week ;)

Ginni Dee: Thanks. Yeah, the paper ones are ok, but I really couldn't find ceramic ones ;)

I loved the envelope pic! And is that how you open all envelopes...kind of like a hamster?

I thought Unsigned brought up a good point about getting along with your travel mates. Sometimes even great friends can be a pain on a trip if you don't totally mesh on how you go about things, & there you are in another country where you don't know anyone.

I think it depends on how you are with traveling...if you're the spontaneous, backpack across Europe, okay-sleeping-in-a-dive with roosters crowing at dawn type of adventurer, this trip to Ireland might be worth any headache it causes down the road. Otherwise, I think you should enjoy the benefits of having a cash-cushion as you ponder your next big steps.

If it was me, I'd probably love the first days of my trip but have a niggly feeling in my stomach the 2nd half as I thought about the job situation.

I've been to Ireland twice and ZOMG YOU HAVE TO GO. It is awesome.

Perhaps you can do a quick search to find out if the price you've been quoted is an OK rate?

But man, not having a job ... I would TOTALLY just go over there and STAY forever and a day. You're going to love it.

Okay, I forgot to comment in appreciation of "unsigned" who actually made me laugh today. Way to go and be funny and loose 'unsigned' :). Okay, that's my only shout out this comment.

(You better blog tomorrow or I'll have to come back here and haunt [annoy] you and everybody for another three. PLeeaaase?)

Oh, and "single" let me down. I truly knew she'd vote the big "NO" too...well, without the lap top. Still luv' ya' tho "single." [smiley-wink -- oops, two shout outs]

You gotta' go with your gut. Like you said priorly, "go with what you first feel...sumthin' sumthin" [referring to PFC]." Gut thing.

But, I would still educate myself 'prior' to the trip about the "women" you don't know. They might already be a "couple" on their own. Which is cool and all...but then you are left to the Irish chicks.

Okay, over and out. It's 10:07 p.m. here (7 mins past my bedtime, oooh, I a rebel)...

Be safe in cyber-space -- I got credit card hacked! But, my bank is awesome. If you want more info go read me at my place. ILY and G-Ngt! [Crap, I mean G'mrnin'!]

Jesus, man, GO. Screw how the girls look, just go! Ireland, from all accounts, is a beautiful and fun place to visit - how can you lose?

P.S. I am very jealous of your King collection - I've read most of mine to tatters and need to replace them - Cujo, Carrie, The Stand, It, I could go on, but suffice it to say that the ones I read most need replacing.

GOOD NEWS! I figured out a way to keep my PFC's public! New blog! I made a new one just for the PFC, which will stay public. I will link to it from my regular blog on PFC day, and you will be able to link to it here, and anyone who wants to read it will be able to do so!

One thing though - could you do me a huge favor? Would you mind going into your PFC archives and changing the link to the new one? (I put the first PFC on there already.)

To get to the new blog, just click my name on here and it will take you to my profile which will show you my new blog!

Enviable Steven King collection! I found this weeks WWC challenging too. Of course I forgot to take a camera along to the most obvious place to get good ceramic and paper pix, but hey, who's keeping score? Nice job, as usual, on yours!
Are you seriouslly contemplating the Ireland trip? Isn't it a given? You do what you have to do to GO! GO TO IRELAND! You won't regret it, my friend. JUST GO! and take lots of photos for us!!!!

R.E.H. said...

Jo: Yup, that's how I open my envelopes ;)

About how I like to travel - oh, yes, I'm more of a back-backing type guy than the "fake touristy paradise" lover. I like to see and experience the "real" country, not just hanging out on "touristy" attractions.

That doesn't mean that I don't like hanging out on a wonderful beach in an exotic resort. But, Ireland is not that kind of place - so I would much rather hang out at the local pubs with the local people than at a fancy hotel drinking Muai Tai's (how Irish is that?).

The guy I'd be travelling with is the type who is real easy to get along with. I don't think I've ever even had an argument with him, and I've known him for (Whoa!) 13 years!

Single In The City: Ok. If I go, I promise to dump HER in Ireland... ;)

Moo: Welcome!

The GO votes are piling up ;)

I'm sure the place is awesome, and I like your take on staying there because I don't have a job. I don't think I'm going to such an extreme though.

Farmer's Wife: Yeah, I'll probably blog tonight... so keep your hopes up ;)

Now, if the women were already a couple that could make things even more interesting... providing... of course... I should not finish that thought out loud ;)

Bummer about the credit card. I'll be over to read up on all the juicy details...

Melissa: Yeah, I think I really want to go - regardless of what the women look like ;)

I have a knack for reading books with caution. I can read a paperback twice, and it still looks brand new... it's a talent I have. (I hate it when the books look all worn and old in the bookshelf).

R.E.H. said...

Kcinnova: Glad you liked the pics. The close-up ones were the only ones I thought were "worthy" this week ;)

Emmeline: Awesome! You could use that place for other blogs too, that you wouldn't mind your friend reading ;)

I'll update the links on the PFC archive!

Newt: Thanks. Yeah, I had to do about 10 of those flipping pages shots... but then when looking at them - it was the second one that was the best ;)

Karen: Well, being a single guy - women tend to be a priority in most situations ;)

Yeah, the finances are really my only concern. That will determine whether or not to go.

Single In The City: I don't have a reputation of saying "NO!", so no need to worry there ;)

No More Empty Fortune Cookies: Thanks. This weeks WWC was really tough!

Funny how you mention taking photos for you. Since I started blogging, I've found that sometimes there are things I want to do - because they would make for a good blog post ;)

So, yes - if I go, you could expect quite a number of good pictures, and some stories to go along!

Hmmm... I wonder what kind of security that bank downtown has... ;)

Loved all the paper pics, especially the thumbing thru the pages - it's like a great action shot.

If the Ireland trip sounds too expensive then it probably is - plus - wouldn't you rather travel with a woman you know? I say do the gym, continue to explore your next step re. work, and then travel on your own terms with money you can afford to spend.

then again - what the hell do I know :)
