Stepping in real quick today to squeeze in a Funday Sunday post.
Since I posted that meme a couple of days ago, I've not been able to get the magnificent TV series called Twin Peaks out of my head. And, while it isn't a comedy series - it does provide a wicked sense of humor. Not the laugh out loud kind - but the kind that keeps your smile attached to your lips from start to finish.
Besides - Emmeline told me she hadn't seen the series, and I must do what I can to allow her the pleasure of watching such a wonderful show.
Don't forget to check out the "3rd" monthly commenter story if you missed it yesterday! (Scroll on down)
Today I chose a Funday Sunday post which makes you think twice about riding a taxi ever again. I just wish I could understand what they are saying in this clip, but words aren't really necessary to get the feel here.
Anywhere else in the world - the TV-station would have their asses sued if they pulled a stunt like this! This would surely be the ride of your life.
Unless... if you're from New York City, this is pretty much just your average ride. Last time I took a cab in NYC (a couple of years ago) I actually hit my head on the ceiling.
This week I bring you a clip from one of the funniest ever shows on television. The Brittish comedy series Fawlty Towers, where John Cleese plays the role of a hotel owner. This series had me laughing to the point of falling out of my couch at times. The clip is one in which he serves some German guests in the restaurant... he's obsessing a little about the war (The War, of course, being WWII).
I thought I'd offer you a little recipe today as well. Everybody seems to be doing it lately, and I don't want to be left out... so here is something that's really quick and easy to make, and yet mighty tasty - give it a try.
Pasta with Tuna:
1/2 onion 1 1/2 cup crushed tomatoes 4 tablespoons tomato ketchup 1/2 cup water 2 teaspoons honey 1 cube vegetable bouillon 1 can of tuna (6-7 ounces) 1/2 cup fresh parsley (chopped) 1/3 - 1/2 teaspoon pepper
Serve with Pasta Salad Parmesan cheese
Here's how to do it:
Chop onions... how hard is that? Breathe through your mouth to prevent your eyes from tearing up. I'm a regular Martha Stewart, am I not?Brown the onions in bottom of pot. Use olive oil for best results.Add rest of ingredients, stir and bring to a simmer. Allow to cook for about two-three minutes.Serve it up with pasta, some tomatoes and a salad. Garnish with some more fresh parsley.
You know. I'm a huge fan of stand-up comedy. The purest and simplest form of entertainment there is, and it has a way of having me laugh my socks right off. And, the man who introduced the concept to me was Eddie Murphy, back in the 80's.
Yeah, I was subjected to the stand-up art form kind of late... well, I had seen other people on stage being funny - but Eddie back in those days took it a step further. First time I saw Dilerious, I was laughing so hard I thought I was going to die choking. The clip I present to you today comes from his second stage show "Raw". It is called that because that is what his humor is like... raw!
I had trouble deciding which clip to show you guys, and I've been meaning to do the Eddie Murphy thing for quite some Sunday's... finally, I've decided on one that I find quite funny. I hope you enjoy as much as I do.
Well, I hope you all are enjoying your Easter holiday!
I gotta jump in real quick today to post my Funday Sunday. I'm off to eat me some eggs, so I guess I won't be around much today to reply or read y'all's blogs - but I'll check in with you tonight.
What I got for you today is sort of a "panic post", as I wanted something funny and related to Easter... well I found this clip "Is that a rabbit in your pocket?" Very short... but it made me laugh! I hope you enjoy!
When I first came across The Toy Dolls way back in the mid 80's I got the answer to that... YES! It can be laugh-out-loud funny - and still be pretty darn good too! The Toy Dolls are a UK band that mixes the laugh with some weird punk riffs, and as stupid as they are - I still enjoy their music. So I present to you the song "Nellie The Elephant" on video for this Funday Sunday. This one is off their first album, and may be one of the absolutely most ridiculous songs they've done... couldn't find "Olga... I Cannot", which is my personal favorite though...
In addition to that I have put another one of their songs on my playlist. That song is "Fisticuffs in Frederick Street", which me and my high-school band actually did a cover of... imagine me singing that tune live on stage in front of a whopping 300+ crowd at 18 years of age (we did this song at a reunion gig a few years after graduation).
Only 10 more days to go before it's time to submit your Picture Fiction Challenge for this month. The deadline was set at March 19th (although you have until the 21st to submit). Refresh your memories and take a look at the pictures for the new challenge, if you want to play.
As usual, I'm eager to read what y'all come up with this time.
Now... two weeks ago I gave you that clip of a zombie baby from Peter Jackson's movie "Brain Dead". You have probably figured that it is one of my all time favorite movies. It was a bit of a surprise to me that it seemed to go down pretty well with most of you, so I'm bringing back that same movie for this weeks Funday Sunday.
One of the reasons is that this is really the clip I wanted to show, but decided against... because it is kind of violent and bloody. Then Knight posted this as part of a comment in that thread:
Knight: "No blood? What kind of zombie movie is this?"
Well, here's some blood and gore for you. Still not anywhere near what is represented throughout the film, but at least a decent chunk of violent, gory fun.
The way I like horror comedies to be made is to do them like a Tom & Jerry cartoon. You know, over the top and non-stop hilarious action. Why aren't there more films made in the "cartoon" fashion. Sam Raimi did the "Evil Dead" films, which are really the only one's that truly match this one.
No, watch that clip, and enjoy some serious zombie ass-kickin'!
In light of recent events on this blog - specifically last days blog post, and the nature of comments in the comments section of that post, my mind went to this old stage play. I have been searching high and low for this one - for years! I was shocked to find it on YouTube.
This is a part of Sam Shepard's True West. A stage play that was filmed, starring John Malkovich and Gary Sinise. Quite possibly the best ever dark comedy stage play I have ever seen.
The story revolves around a writer (Sinise), and his troubled brother (Malkovich) who shows up after being gone for many years. I am not going to spoil anything - because I will recommend you find this one and watch it in full. It appears you can get the whole play in segments like this one from YouTube, but I'm sorry to say that the capture isn't all that great. The picture is very dark.
As I said at the beginning - all this talk about writing, about darkness and about the human psyche that's been going on made me think about this stage play. I think this captures the mood set in these comments quite well... and it does it in a very funny way.
PS. You only need to watch the first 4-5 minutes. The "pen or pencil" sequence is what is important here. I couldn't find only that scene in a clip, so feel free to stop watching once the phone is over and done with ;)
I couldn't withhold this one any longer. This scene is from one of the funniest movies ever made... no question about that! And, which movie is that?, you ask. Well, the answer to that would be Brain Dead, aka Dead Alive, which really was the break through movie for Peter Jackson. Yes! That same Peter Jackson who brought us the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, and the remake of King Kong.
For those unfortunate enough to have missed this brilliant and completely whacked movie, I will just give you a little introduction to the scene. I won't go into great detail (watch the whole film if you haven't seen it. I guarantee you will laugh your socks right off!).
Lionel, our main character, has found a baby zombie. Yes, you read that right - that's a zombified infant child. Now, Lionel is a nice guy, you know... so of course he decides to take the child down to the park in a stroller. This is (as if you couldn't have guessed) a recipe for disaster... especially when you know jack-all about taking care of babies.
Now... this is not a scene for the faint of heart. I don't know why I offer a warning here - but some people seem to have a problem with these kinds of things... blood and gore (which however is not present in this clip), and violent behaviour towards cute little (zombie) toddlers.
Darn it! Take it for what it is... pure entertainment! Enjoy!
Oh... only three more days to go on the Picture Fiction Challenge. Wednesday is when you should post your contribution... but you do have until the 23rd to make the deadline if you're short on time. Don't know what this is? Need to refresh you memory? Take a look right HERE.
Today's "Funday Sunday" contains strong language and sexually explicit cartoons. If you are squeamish and have a problem with graphically erotic imagery, I suggest you return tomorrow and skip today's entertainment here on Ramblings Of A Madman.
I came across this today, and I must admit it gave me a chuckle. It is a very short little "game", in which you choose between a few options to progress through the story. You can view each option before you make your decision during the game. Click the option - view what happens, then click "back" to watch option #2, and so on.
This is just so stupid it makes me laugh. Hope you'll find it as entertaining as I did.
I wanted to do something else this Funday Sunday, as I've found that I always post some video clip. This week I present to you my favorite comic strip of all time - Garfield.
You've all heard and seen this funny little cat before, but I can't get enough of Garfield. There's just something about him that reminds me so much of myself (in that he's so lazy and that he loves food).
I also found, looking at the official Garfield website that one could create their own Garfield comic strips. I had to try it out, and although one could do so much better if spending some time on that little application, I quickly whipped this little comic strip together.
I hereby present to you, an original R.E.H. "Garfield Comic".
In other news... I have a new idea that I wanted to share with you all. I believe I will present this one tomorrow - it's a new challenge that I hope one or two of my readers are willing to participate in.
I will also (hopefully) bring you the next chapter of Rubicon Heart on Wednesday, if all goes to plan.
This clip seems to be pretty popular on YouTube, so you may very well have seen it before. I, for one, can watch this time and time again and never be bored with it. I love this one!
Having spent some time in the sauna at gym today, it got me thinking about this one. There's one thing I'm curious about, however. Do those Japs really have leather seats in their saunas? That sounds disgusting to me. Imagine your sweat sticking to your skin on one of those... Never mind comfort - give me the classic wooden boards any day - at least they quickly soak up the sweat from the previous occupant of that seat quickly so I don't have to plant my naked butt in someone else's puddle of perspiration.
I love the fact, in this clip, that they are being tossed out into the freezing cold. Butt naked, straight from the heat of a sauna and into the freezing cold snow! The Japanese candid camera sure take things to the next level.
BTW. If you all got a little concerned about my well being yesterday - let me assure you that I am moving on toward my normal self again. Couple more good nights of sleep, and I'll be just fine. Thank You all for showing your support yesterday!
Most of us hate watching the commercials on TV... and I'm no different. However, every now and then a commercial shows up that you actually enjoy watching... sadly - for me, it appears - most of those are banned shortly after. Maybe that has got something to do with my twisted sense of humor.
This one, which I present to you today is an XBox commercial which found its way to a television set near me a few years ago. It is the single most memorable commercial I've ever seen, and the first couple of times that I saw it I was laughing hysterically.
It was banned shortly after, and I can't for the life of me figure out why. Yes, it's slightly brutal - and yes someone dies... but come on! Are we really that sensitive that we can't handle or see the humor in this one? According to the people who decide for us what's good television and what is not?
End of the line... no matter what you think - this one is simply brilliant!
Give me more classy commercials like this one, and I might even end up buying a product or two that you sell!
PS. As a side-note... No! I do not own an XBox as a result of viewing this commercial... in fact - up until I found this on YouTube I always thought it was a PlayStation ad... which I don't own either ;)
Well... I decided on a slightly different Funday Sunday clip today. While this is not really laugh-out-loud stuff, it keeps me watching with a grin on my face from start to finish.
Stanely Kubrik's Full Metal Jacket is one of the best films ever made in my opinion, and half of that comes from the intro scene alone. This is simply outstanding stuff. If you haven't seen the movie, it is about time you go out and find yourself a DVD - run home with it held firmly in your hand, and immediately pop it into the DVD player upon your return home. I keep finding this masterpiece on discount everywhere so you don't have to spend a lot of money to get it (though, I find it a disgrace they offer this one cheap).
Well... I'm keeping it short today. I've posted a couple of long ones the last two days, so I guess you're all looking for a break from this Rambling Madman.
If all goes to plan - tomorrow will mark the debut of "Rubicon Heart".
This is a classic scene from the 80's movie "Trading Places" with Eddie Murphy, Dan Ackroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis. One of my all time favorite comedies.
Note: Sound is very low in this clip, and I couldn't find a better one on YouTube, so crank it up and enjoy the laugh.
So, the year of 2007 is rapidly approaching the end. Last years New Year's resolutions were all successfully annihilated long before the half way point of the year. I'll be a good boy and give my resolutions this year as well, and for the first time that will happen in the form of a blog. Maybe that'll help me stick to my "new agenda". That post will be available for your reading pleasure tomorrow.
I have not abandoned my Big Project... the "Rubicon Heart" story, in case you're wondering why it hasn't been posted yet. I just haven't had the energy/inspiration/time to write anything on that the last couple of weeks. Shortly after the new year, I promise it will be headed to a blog near you.
Also, I got to play a couple of Hold'Em tournaments yesterday. A final chance at poker in 2007 brought 10 of us together, seated around a poker table for eight. I did ok... second place in the first tournament, while I crashed out at the 6th spot in the second round. My beloved pair of 10's failed me for the first time ever in my home games (I have only once before lost with a pocket pair of 10's, and that happened at a casino in the very first hand of the tournament... thank God for re-buys). I play my pocket 10's as fiercely as I'd play pocket Aces - even more so, because of my genuine belief a third ten will be laid out on the table... it's quite amazing how often I draw three-of-a-kind playing that hand. Never got all four of them, though - that is reserved for pocket 4's, for some reason. I've had four-of-a-kind with 4's four times... see a pattern there?
Have a Happy New Year, everyone!
To the guys: "Cheeeeeeers!"
To the girls: *pouting lips for a New Year's kiss*
PS. Come back tomorrow for my New Year's resolution post!
What else could I possibly post for Funday Sunday this week, but a fun little Christmas cartoon.
Well, lots a work still to do tonight. But, I've just served myself a Christmas ham sandwich, and some eggnog... taking a bit of a rest for a second. Been working today as well, but finally I am rid of the crazy Christmas shoppers, and looking forward to a nice couple of days off from work. During this time I will try to enjoy the holidays the way they are supposed to be enjoyed... by eating plenty of food!
I've got a lot to do, so I'll just leave you with this for today.
If you haven't heard of this guy, you should really check him out. Tom Mabe has found the solution on how to deal with those pesky telemarketers. This particular call is quite possibly the funniest prank call I've ever heard.
I used to love doing prank calls myself. Guess with age some sort of responsibility did find it's way into my consciousness, and I haven't done it in a while - that's why I'm no Tom Mabe myself.
One time, at 3AM, me and a bunch of other guys from school called up our teacher, waking her up (of course), asking her how to make waffles - that was fun. She became very upset, and swore to find out who we were... she never did, thank god ;)
We also called the parents of some kids in school, telling them we were the police and had their son's in custody for robbing a convenience store. Another one was in custody for disorderly conduct and we all had a good laugh. Hardly very sensitive of us... but a lot of fun indeed.
I will try to recite (a shortened version) the one call that I still remember the best:
"Uhm... Hello?", it's a very tired voice on the other end of the line.
"Is this the Johnson residence?"
"Yes..."
"Ok, ma'am. I'm very sorry to be waking you up at such a late hour, but I'm calling about your son."
"My son? Is he in some sort of trouble?"
"Unfortunately, yes. He is in custody for unruly and disorderly conduct. We picked him up downtown after reports of him running around naked and screaming. I'm afraid he's had a lot to drink."
"Oh, my God... When did this happen?"
"Hell, I don't know Ma'am... I was pretty drunk myself."
Then everybody started laughing, and we hung up the phone.
So, tell me about your own favorite prank calls. What evil deeds have you done that you wish to share with us?
By the way... are prank calls really a thing of the past? With caller ID and all, we really can't make those calls, because it is too easy for the victims to find out who we are. The good old random number picked out of the phone book just doesn't work any more.
I love to scare people. I wish I had the opportunity to do it more often, because nothing beats the look of an absolutely terrified face... when you know there's really nothing to actually be afraid of.
On Halloween, I told you about my most successful attempt at scaring someone - when me and some friends invited my neighbor over for a seance. That experience, and my childish love for the horror genre in general would make me a good choice to produce a series like Scare Tactics. (Take the hint, Sci-Fi Channel).
There is this one clip I remember, where a girl in a car meets this hitchhiker. He keeps popping up at regular intervals ahead of them, and the last time when they stop (if I remember correctly due to being out of gas) - when the hitchhiker opens the door she goes absolutely nuts, throwing herself up against the door on the other side, on top of two other people in the car. I remember she was screaming her head off, tears streaming down her face. When they told her she was on Scare Tactics, she could not understand a word they were saying - her eyes were the size of baseballs, I tell ya!
I felt sorry for that girl, because she was absolutely certain she was about to die...
Couldn't find that clip on YouTube - but this girl is almost as scared... and that'll have to be funny enough ;)
Couldn't come up with anything better for "Funday Sunday" today. I'm sick with a bad ass cold and I'm frustrated at my situation at work, so for me to have a fun filled Sunday is virtually impossible.
This video that I found on YouTube, however, is funny and quite representative of my mood today.
I love it how in that first clip, when things... go down... that one guy seems almost oblivious to what is going on, and just continues to chat on the phone as if everything was just fine. The second clip... what a gal, huh? And, that final dude - well, that could be me - sad isn't it, but that is how I handle anger situations at times... hehe.
I once thrashed my office chair after having lost eight hours of work on the computer and there was a sudden black out. Both in terms of electricity, and in the rational part of my brain. I have a tendency to forget saving often when I do things. I was so angry I got up from my chair, grabbed a good hold of it, swung it up above my head and proceeded to repeatedly smash it against the floor...
What are the craziest things you have done in a fit of rage?
I took a day off, yesterday, after having completed the NaBloPoMo quest. Not because I was fed up of posting blogs every day, but because I was lyin' flat out in my bed feeling sorry for myself. It's been a long time since I've had a cold or anything knock me out like this... It's at times like these I wish I had a sexy, scantily clad girlfriend here to take care of me.
Slightly better today, but still some ways to go before I'll be back to my old usual self.
Enjoy the video, and hopefully I'll be back tomorrow with a more cheerful post.
--------------------
UPDATE:
Shit, guys! I just rewatched that video, and I noticed something I didn't think of at first, which made that last guy that much funnier. I realized that there was actually some thought to what he was doing... see - he's come to the conclusion that the printer does not work - and therefor he grabs the monitor, places it facedown in the copier and (my guess) wants to make a copy of the screen, instead of getting a printout.... you think I'm right?
Found this funny Swedish commercial, as I thought what should I post for Funday Sunday today? I have just returned home from the gym, and spent a good 20 minutes in the sauna after my work out. I gotta tell you, I love to swelter in a steaming hot sauna.
I wish I could top this off with some funny sauna moments that I have experienced myself, but actually I have never had an embarrassing or otherwise laughable situation in the sauna.
I suspect at one time I interrupted some weirdo while he was yanking his wiener. That's not funny.
I once suffered from penis envy... a guy in there had a freakin' monster between his legs - I am not interested in looking at another man's genitals. But, this one was just the kind of thing where I had to sneak a peek, in order to determine whether, in fact, that thing was real or not.
Another time... recently... I damn near got 2nd degree burns on my hand as I scooped some water onto the rocks, and the steam rose up while I had my hand a little too close.
I think the one time things could've gotten embarrassing (and funny), though I was spared the humiliation of someone entering at that particular time, would be this:
I carry the key to my locker with me as I go inside. I know that by the time I am ready to exit the sauna, the key is going to be damn hot when I grab it, so I do so with caution and wrap it into the towel. This time, I burnt my fingers, dropped the key and it went down between the wooden boards and all the way to the floor beneath. The only way to retrieve the thing was by kneeling down, putting my ass high up in the air - butt naked - and crawl underneath with half my body. As I was fishing for the key, I was absolutely terrified someone would open the door. What they would have seen would've been me on my hands and knees, my bare naked ass glaring at them, while the rest of me would be hidden underneath the seats.
I was spared that embarrassing moment... and now I've just told you people about it. Duh! Way to go, R.E.H.!
I am not mad... at least... I hope I'm not. Not mad in the sense of being a raving lunatic. But, maybe I am just a little off center - just enough to be of interest to you; the reader.
