Funday Sunday: "The Toy Dolls"

Can music be funny?

When I first came across The Toy Dolls way back in the mid 80's I got the answer to that... YES! It can be laugh-out-loud funny - and still be pretty darn good too! The Toy Dolls are a UK band that mixes the laugh with some weird punk riffs, and as stupid as they are - I still enjoy their music. So I present to you the song "Nellie The Elephant" on video for this Funday Sunday. This one is off their first album, and may be one of the absolutely most ridiculous songs they've done... couldn't find "Olga... I Cannot", which is my personal favorite though...

In addition to that I have put another one of their songs on my playlist. That song is "Fisticuffs in Frederick Street", which me and my high-school band actually did a cover of... imagine me singing that tune live on stage in front of a whopping 300+ crowd at 18 years of age (we did this song at a reunion gig a few years after graduation).

Only 10 more days to go before it's time to submit your Picture Fiction Challenge for this month. The deadline was set at March 19th (although you have until the 21st to submit). Refresh your memories and take a look at the pictures for the new challenge, if you want to play.

As usual, I'm eager to read what y'all come up with this time.

I've been working diligently on the PFC. I feel far more confident about this one than I did the first one, and, once again, I too am really looking forward to reading the creations of your talented readers.

I have never heard of these Toy Dolls. Your Sunday Funday always introduces me to soemthing new and, uh, interesting. ;)

I LOVE that song! I can't wait to show it to my sister. She's a happy little punk. It's just her cup of tea.

I like their little dance that goes with the song. The singer should eat a sandwich. He looks like he's underweight. Oi!

Can music be funny? Well, Weird Al Yankovic thinks so! LOL

I've never heard of The Toy Dolls, but I like them.

Toy Dolls -- they were entertaining. And, you've got some Van Halen on the right there now. I'm a country girl but I know a little Van.

The poor kid needs more than a sammich' -- he needs all the food my Mom cooked (she couldn't cook) that she always told me the starving Etheopians would gladly have. I kept trying to get her to send it to them.

Mind you...we [I] were generally wondering daily where the rent money would come from back then.

But, I chose starving over "eating" what she called "cookin'."

Bless her heart. Don't tell her I said that ;). Now, "I" can cook! Take after my Dad...in so many ways Love my Mom though.

I think that shirtless guy thinks he looks "Hot" or something. I mean, why else would he be shirtless and the other two are wearing the tightie-witie red ties?

I like a little meat on a man -- so that he doesn't blow over with the wind :)

Dana: Well, I'm certainly looking forward to yours this month.

Karen: Yeah, I try to come up with some less known stuff for my Funday Sunday... glad you find them... uhm... interesting ;)

Sparkling Red: Ha! Happy little punk, is she? Well The Toy Dolls could very well be described as Happy Little Punks themselves ;)

Unsigned: Shakira should take a few pointers from their choreography, don't you think? ... Or NOT! ;)

Yeah, the guy needs a number of sandwiches.

Jay: Weird Al's got nothing on The Toy Dolls, though ;)

Single In The City: Sorry, no wine - but I'll be glad to offer a shot of whiskey (should do wonders for your cold as well!)

I sure hope you decide to post that PFC of yours!

Farmer's Wife (x2): Your mom also did the "poor starvin' Ethiopians" thing to make you eat, huh? My mom always mentioned that when I wouldn't finish my veggies... I never complained about the food (minus the veggies), because my mom could cook like a pro!

I'm fairly sure Olga (the skinny dude) has his shirt off, fully aware of how ridiculous he looks. It works well with the music... it says "we think we're bad-asses, but if you look at us we're just a bunch of morons" ;)

I started, I started and it is fun. In my mind right now I have so much going on that i am able to sit and write in a twisted way right now!

I hope I am doing it right, I can mix up the pics and stuff right? This may be the release I needed!

That is alright, I have a lot of wine over here and ummm lets just say I have many bottles to show for it!!

For you I will post the PFC! don't laugh at it, I am an aspiring new author!

Rock ON!

i'm so glad single in the city is participating this time around!!!! Whoop! For you Gal!

I finished my PFC awhile back. It's one of those things that comes to me and then I type it down.

And, then even if I don't find it as pleasing as I wish (well, literary awardable) I can't change the focus of where it took me.

Hmmmm. I'd still hope to find another route through it all and write another one.

But, a mind is it's own, a heart feels what it feels, a life is what we are lucky to live through...and thus, where I find my inspiration.

I'll tried to get a video from that comic group that the songs make me laught everytime(you might not understand them, but the video are still pretty funny, from what I remember!)

R.E.H. said...

Single In The City: Wine induced writing! I can hardly hold myself together out of excitement to read yours now! ;)

Yes, you can "mix" the pics as you wish - just need to keep them representing the specific "elements" of your story.

Oh, I promise I will not laugh (unless you've meant it to be funny, in which case I promise I will laugh).

RockDog: I'm fairly sure they are pretty much unknown back in the States. Hamburger and a dentist - LOL!

Farmer's Wife: Generally, one should always stick with the first thing that pops into mind. For some reason I've found that it usually the best one - although it might need some tweaking most of the time.

I'm never fully pleased with what I've written. Not ever!

Jill: I can see why you're having problems locating the video, since you don't seem to remember the name of the group ;)

Let me know if you find it though - I'm always up for a good laugh!

Funny guys! love love the eyewear.

Maybe I'll give the PFC a swipe this time, although lately I've been 3-D'ing it to the detriment of my blogging universe. Curse you, little league - and second grade, while we're at it.

Sad news for my blog . . . head over and check it out. :(

As for can music be funny . . . have you ever heard of Flight of the Conchords? Do a youtube search. They are HILARIOUS. They have a TV show too. Check them out.

I just realized this means that I won't really get to participate fully in the PFC anymore. That REALLY sucks. I will still write for it, but only people who are invited to read my blog will get to see my entries! I wish I could come up with a way to post them to a neutral site for you to link to . . . man this sucks. I wish that people would grow up and act mature so I wouldn't have to deal with shit like this.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just really pissed (as in angry, not drunk).

Em

PS Upon further thought . . . maybe I will create an additional blog (that is not private) where I only post PFC entries. That could work I suppose. I will think more about it.

Elle: Yeah, those are some ugly glasses ;)

Sure hope you decide to join in on the fun of PFC!

Emmeline (x2): I've heard of Flight of the Concords... but I can't recall any specific song at the moment.

Sorry to hear about your blog (be right over to read up on the events)... sure hope you can find a way to keep posting the PFC and all...

Okay, so you don't have to always blog daily...but, I'm waiting for your daily blog....hmmm.

Oh, maybe you went to the coffee shop? And, hooked up with coffee Hottie? And, went to the beach? And, then for dinner and wine and now your....um, too busy to blog today/tonight.

Well...guess I'll be visitin her another two times. Hope you are having a "fantabulous" Monday!!!

Kay. Just checking in.

I meant visiting "here" not her, I don't know any hers...in that kind of way. Okay. So I am still entitled to one more comment tonight.

Timer's goin' off and gotta' child in the tub. Later Gator! After awhile, crocodile....I'll make like a tree and leaf...now. LOL!

I love the thought of you rockin out live to an audience! Did anyone catch that on film??? You need to sing for us...have some whiskey, put on your hard tunes & Vlog!

I made the mistake of not doing the PFC right away & now my head's just not in story-mode...I think I have Springbreak fever. So it'll come or it won't but either way I can't wait to read everyone's stories!

Farmer*swife a/k/a Glass_Half_Full said...

It's your tomorrow already....I miss you. I think I'm having withdrawals.

Kinda' like when my favorite show is on and I'm all excited...only to find out it's a re-run?

And, so then I feel all let down and the other channels suck cuz' the signal is out and the tin foil antenna only catch(es) the one channel and tonight is the night my fav show comes on that channel.

Yeah, kinda' takes me back to tin foil antenna(es) days. I don't like going back there...wait, what was I talking about? See how you leave me all rambling to myself?

Welp, off to "Queen of Sheba" tub since "How I Met Your Mother" is coming on now -- my fav show of the week...but, I was gonna' share it with you.

I sure am excited to see what your "freedom" happenings were today...can't wait to read all about it!!! Even if it was a smelly fart, pizza stain, no bath day...people [bachelors] need lazy [paid] days like that sometimes.

(Long, I know. But, it was my 2nd third comment so I know I have to stop here)

REH, Nice to see you are doing well even after work is over for you. No need to be in panic mode yet, just take your time and decide what direction you want your life to go in. I am so far behind in your more lengthy posts. Ah well I will be more diligent from now on.

Australia is so awesome. Everyone needs to come to Australia once in their lives. Petting the kangaroos was so awesome! A bit scary at first but they are soft and cuddly and you want to take them home as a pet.

Anyways REH fly the 15,000 kms out here while you are jobless. You can work at a farm or something picking bananas. Well, enjoy the cold Swedish air whilst we bake.

Tequila Mockingbird: I may be an old man... but I have some awesome memories ;)

Farmer's Wife (x2): You crack me up!

And, went to the beach?...

Uhm... what do you think Sweden is? Like Florida or something? No beach play for another few months ;)

No, I didn't meet up with her... still haven't laid eyes on her... got my attention else where right now (there is another one - even more desirable).

Spent most day enjoying myself - went to the gym, watched the Braves play some ball...

Jo: Actually - someone did get that on film... twice! Plus, we did a music video of a song.

We were a bit of a local phenomenon there for a while - there are still people who remember us ;)

Sure hope you find the inspiration to put a PFC together - I thoroughly enjoyed your last one.

I'm yet to start working on mine as well... probably end up writing it on the 19th - just like last month ;)

Farmer's Wife: Sorry that I left you with re-runs of the Madman Rambles yesterday ;)

Not a whole lot happened yesterday... so I didn't really have anything to blog about either. One thing did happen, which I will address in the WWC post later today.

Single In The City (x2): Green Eyes Withdrawal... hehe - I like that "slogan", I may have to use it somewhere, some place.

Had a nice relaxing day...

R.E.H. said...

Preposterous Ponderings: Weird Al has done a couple of funny ones, but I think that he tries too hard to be funny... I don't know - I'm not a huge fan.

Mik (aka Beautifully Profound?): So you've finally made it way over there! Hope you're enjoying yourself, and that things are everything you wanted them to be!

Picking bananas and petting kangaroos doesn't sound like a bad way of living :)

Tequila Mockingbird: So... are you saying I'm too young for you now? ;)

Single In The City: Hmmm... I'm lost for words. I don't become speechless easily - but right now... I'm not sure how to respond without goin' overboard ;)

Save that "V" card for me, though ;)

Uhm... I meant - don't stop blogging, dear. I'd miss you terribly!

Knight: Hehe... is that out of sympathy? Or did you think he had a great bod?

Can you picture that guy strutting his stuff on the beach? LOL!
