Ramen Noodles...

Well, I got nothing to say today.

Ramen Noodles, dude. If you talk to any kind of fitness instructor I'm pretty sure they are going to tell you Ramen Noodles is not a recommended pick-me-up after a rough outing at the gym. Well, I don't give a hoot about that... for me - some Ramen Noodles, a couple of toasts (yes, white bread even) with cheese is just what the doctor ordered. Add to that a glass of milk and I have my energy levels fully restored... almost.

Yeah - those noodles on that pic there have just been eaten... they are no more. The next time they see the light of day - they will look a lot less appetizing... I promise not to post a picture of that...

Well, I learned something new at the gym today. I mean, it should have been obvious but I've never really thought of it like that.

See... I like to do 12 repetitions, 3 times on each station. I put on all the weight that I can muster... and today my cousin tells me to put on some more, because he thought it looked a little too easy for me. So I tell him:

"Yeah, I could. But, I can't do 12 with the added weight."

"Well, do eight or ten then."

"But, I want to do twelve."

"You know, less repetitions with more weight will give you bigger muscles."

This I knew from before... but I figured if I max my 12, it should have the same effect. That is when the revolutionary news were spoken out.

"Do eight with more weight. Then, when you can push that up to twelve, add some more"

Now... how freakin' simple is that? Why didn't this unbelievably simple equation exist in my head before. I would pump the same weight over and over again... try once with some more on, and if I couldn't do twelve, I would revert back to the old weight.

Stupid! Stupid, stupid, stupid R.E.H. This new way should make it a lot faster to add more kilos, pounds, whatever.

Poker...

Now, I like my live poker games. With actual people sitting around a green felt table pushing chips and shufflin' real plastic coated cards. It was a long time since I played any internet poker. But, since it is becoming quite rare to actually gather enough people for a live poker session, the other day I decided to log onto my old PartyPoker account.

Should I e-mail them about this? I mean, I knew I had over $100 on my account - yes I play with little money... I do it for fun, not to become rich... still. As I logged on I read $66 on my account.

No friggin' way, guys!

So I check out my cashflow history, and realize they've charged me $7-something each month because of my "inactive account". Yes, I haven't logged on since october or something last year - but where and when was I informed it would cost me money not to play? I'm not happy about it.

Well, I sat down at a cash table and won my money back... $35 in about an hour of play. I won $18 in a matter of minutes at the first table, and then everyone logged off. Did I frighten them? I would've been $60 up, had I not wasted $46 on one single hand. The guy HAD to have pocket aces to beat me, nothing else could win the pot... I thought the odds were on my side - the dude DID HAVE the friggin' pocket aces! Here you go, buddy - here's my hard earned $46... spend them wisely, schmuck - and they never do!

Played a single table $11 tournament this morning... won another $20. Maybe I should think about a professional poker career? Wouldn't that be sweet? Hanging out in Las Vegas all the time in the casinos with all the hot [Playboy bunnies] chicks and the sound of slot machines spilling coins all over the floors... the occasional "YEAH, BABY, YEAH!"... and the frequent "FUCK! My life is OVER!" and "My wife's gonna KILL ME!".

I would enjoy life in Vegas!

Online poker scares me. One of my brother's good friends does it for a living though. He moved to Vegas and he actually maintains a decent lifestyle just playing poker. I should also mention this guys last name is actually Gamble. I've known him since he was maybe ten so it isn't made up. He was born into it.

I haven't had Ramen Noodles in ages. Ok, wait, that's a lie, I crush them up in our chinese cole slaw salad we make during summer.

And just so you know, before you dial the funny farm on me, I forgot to add in my post that I was talking to the picture of Lily on my desk top. Not just a plain old computer :-)

My Lil-Bro plays at high school (about to Graduate) and online all the time.

He wins too. At school? They are playing with like $50.00 plus cash! Who had this kind of money when WE were kids? Anyhoo.

He plays online all the time and typically wins. He's good.

Texas Hold'em is his fav game and he has the whole chips and table set up. It's so fun to play with my brothers and my Dad.

Used to be fun with my step-mom, but she has chosen to leave the family so screw her anyways.

[I hate feeling that way about people.]

I agree. I prefer real-life poker.

Hey, I have an idea . . . came up with it while I was in the shower last night.

Have you ever thought about making the PFC a contest? As in, after everyone submits, you put up a poll on your site for people to vote on the best one? Or do you think that might discourage people from writing? I suppose it could encourage MORE people to write . . . anyway it was just a thought.

Sorry I've made so many PFC comments lately. I guess it's on my mind. :)

RAMEN NOODLES! Fantastic and fabulously cheap meal. I often eat them for breakfast or brunch because when my sleep level is low I crave carbs.

The pork flavor is my favorite. I like the spicy chicken too...and, roast beef, and creamy chicken on an occassionaly cold days.

They have iron and other good vitamin stuff. The bad thing is the sodium. Yeppers! That's where the bad part comes in.

[Course, I don't add the toast and cheese and milk; my gut would be a total pooch!]

VEGAS is awesome. Been going since I first turned 21. And got carded about the next three or four years.

But, since marriage and kids haven't been back. Then, I decided flying is not safe.

I do want to return though. Love Craps! We have a farm thing out here once a year and I always play the craps. Usually win enough "coupons" that I win a great prize too! Whoo-hooo!

Kay, #3, night! Morning!

What happens in Vegas STAYS in Vegas baby!!! But you'd still have to blog about it to us...ha

I love noodles!! I'm a pasta nut actually..good stuff and cheap. What else can you ask for.

I did poker professionally for a little over a year. I played online nearly everyday and I played in Atlantic City 2-3 times a week. I went out to Vegas almost once a month. I had a great time doing it and I made some nice money. The problem it is an expensive lifestyle "working" in a casino. I didn't have the willpower to make it work for me.

So back to law.....and poker on the side.

Ramen noodles and white bread with cheese on it? You still have pay coming from your job. You don't have to start rationing right now.

Honestly, you can do better than that for food. I hope this isn't what you normally eat. It sounds so lonely.

University students with no money or immigrants on welfare or poor people with sad lives eat ramen noodles.

They say you are what you eat. I tend to agree not only in a nutritional sense but in an emotional sense as well. Perhaps if you cooked up some real food it would improve your mental and emotional state.

As for the poker you should cash out and quit. Poker on the computer is pretty isolating. Not quite what you need right now. Invite some people over for a game and tell them to bring cute girls.

It'll give you a chance to cook something nice for yourself and your guests. You can't play strip poker online. At least not yet...

Geez, unsigned is a total buzzkill!

I was just coming to say that I LOVE Ramen and eat it often for my lunches at work or for a late night snack because it's quick and easy.

But I guess I won't say that now . . . !

Em

Farmer*swife a/k/a Glass_Half_Full said...

So Laughed Out REALLY loud when I read Em's post cuz' I had just had the same thought -- completely.

unsigned is such a buzz kill [no offense 'unsigned' but we both thought it back to back].

So, sure, Ramen is cheap and good for college students. But, it also works well for small children with a stomach ailment...and, it's a good carb fix when you are extremely sleep deprived.

FYI, y'all? It has been written [proven?] that when sleep deprived a person tends to crave "sugar" ie: sweets. I'm not a sweet lover but when I read this it totally made sense because I crave sweets when sleep deprived. BUT, I crave carbs more. My two cups of coffee fill me up for an hour or two and then I hit the "Top Ramen" or whatever is the penny cheaper variety on that given shopping day.

Oh, and some protein (my version: ie: left over meat from dinner or a spoon full of peanut butter that doesn't sit well in my gut) and some carbs (ie: ramen noodles, cheesy pasta, spaghettie) help your body to sleep better.

Sheeeeeeze, unsigned. Live a little yourself. Blog comment some funnies. Don't take life so seriously ALL the time. Life is serious enough. We're out here having some friendship, fun! Welcome aboard. Eat some Top Ramen.

Knight: Pro gambler, Mr. Gamble - lol, I like that!

At times I've seriously considered giving the Vegas thing a shot.

Newt: Ramen in coleslaw... never heard that before.

Oh, I'll call the asylum and tell them you're ok, then ;)

Jay Cam: I'd like that - getting paid for playing, regardless of winning or not. I'm in! ;)

Single In The City: Awesome - we're like two peas in a pod! ;)

With you as my lucky charm I cannot possibly lose. We're gonna be RICH!

Oh, and there goes my reason for buying the next Girls Gone Wild video... think your dad would trust me to keep you out of trouble on spring break? ;)

Dianne: Ha! We could call us the "Mice Pack"!

Farmer's Wife: $50 to play poker in high school? I would've been happy to have $5 to spend on gambling back in those days.

Maybe that's why parents are always in debt these days ;)

It is a lot of fun to play with friends and family at home. Sorry to hear about your stepmom though.

Emmeline: Live poker is so much better than online poker!

And, I don't think it would be good to make the PFC a competition. I do believe many would be intimidated by it, and if there was a poll, and someone don't get a single vote - that's not encouraging to do the next one.

I did, however, consider doing a little analyzing and "rating" on each story myself - but, I'm not sure about that idea either.

It's supposed to be nothing but fun, really.

Farmer's Wife (x2): The ramen are usually an evening "snack" for me. I love the beef and the spicy ones the most, but I keep a lot of different ones in my kitchen for variety ;)

Never been to Vegas myself - but would LOVE to go. I'd want a decent chunk of money that wouldn't kill me if I lost it all though ;)

Anndi: Comfort food for a quick snack, yes!

Wanna play some poker - high stakes? ;)

Jay: Sounds like a plan! We'd be rich and hang out with all the hot chicks. When are we leaving? ;)

Tink said...

Remember my friend? The one who threatened to move away from me repeatedly? The place he was going to move to was Vegas. He went there for a work trip and fell in love...

...with like three chicks and a "very lucky" poker table. LOL.

I think a trip to the city of glitz and glam (and possible bankruptcy) is definitely in order as a pick-me-up. :D

R.E.H. said...

TT: If I go to Vegas I couldn't blog about it ALL right? Some things should stay in Vegas just to honor that tradition ;)

Karen: You actually DID play professionally? That's awesome!

The thing that concerns me about it is that you'd need to invest a lot of money to "get started" right. And, if you hit a losing streak when you first begin, it could hurt you real bad financially.

Unsigned: I eat the noodles by choice - not because I couldn't afford anything else. I find them delicious!

Besides, I never have them for dinner... they are an evening snack after gym to restore my energy levels. I always cook real food for dinner - don't worry ;)

And, as I said, the reason I got online to play some poker just now was because I've not been able to gather enough friends for home poker lately - I guess most people have grown tired of playing.

Emmeline: Well, you just did say those things... ;)

Yeah, ramen are quick, easy and delicious, and I will not feel ashamed for eating them!

Farmer's Wife: Sleep deprivation = sugar cravings... didn't hear that before - but it makes total sense to me!

That's why I've had such a craving for chocolate and other sweets lately. I gotta get into a better sleep pattern for sure!

And... LOL! at your last comment to Unsigned. That part cracked me up.

Though - I must admit that I've seen Unsigned offer some humor at times too ;)

R.E.H. said...

Jahooni: Hehe... I get the feeling that Vegas is much more likely to eat a person alive than online poker games ;)

I'd love to live that close to Vegas... though it would be dangerous ;)

Ireland is still undecided.

Melissa: So if I eat three packs of Ramen a day, I've got my sodium covered ;)

Gotta love'em!

Fu Manchu Dad: I will not listen to anyone telling me there's anything wrong with Ramen Noodles!

But, to eat them dry? That I would never do... it only takes 3 minutes to cook the things.

Dana: Never thought of the scrambled egg thing. But, melted cheese I pretty much have on, as it's melted on the piece of toast, and I dip the toast in the ramen to soak it up... is that weird? ;)

Tink: ...with like three chicks and a "very lucky" poker table.

Ok. I think that may have been the deciding factor... I'm going to Vegas! LOL!

Is poker *anything* like euchre? I do not know what hands mean anything, it seems like a lot of work and learning to do and I can't imagine teaching the two-year-old I'd have someone to play with.

I have to get back into lifting weights again. I'm surprised you're so adamant about doing 12 reps each time. I usually do two sets between 8 and 12 reps. But I'm not trying to bulk up, you know?

Farmer*swife a/k/a Glass_Half_Full said...

Okay, so after this I only got one more post comment left on this set of six. So, good thing I have lots of stuff to do today -- but, before I can start I'm gonna' have to power down for about 20 minutes.

I was dangerous driving my kids to school this a.m. I hate it when I feel sleepy like that and my eyes don't want to stay open.

Maybe it's cuz I only had one cup of coffee instead of the two. But, I've spoiled myself to french vanilla dairy creamer and so plain 2% milk doesn't do it for me anymore.

Geeze? When did I become so high maintenance?

Guess coffee has nothing to do with ramen noodles...but, I figured we kinda' covered that one already. [I think I am totally eating those for lunch today.]

Happy Day and Happy Blogging!!!

Way to go with the mad poker skills!

A friend of mine tried to teach me how to play poker, and although I understood the principles behind it, I just couldn't get into it. I have to admit that I found it boring. Meanwhile, my friend read 27 poker books and then won 6 months' rent during a one week vacation during which he played poker 8+ hours per day. So who's the loser now? Maybe I should give it another try.

Anonymous said...

First of all, I LOATHE ramen noodles. LOATHE them.

Second of all...You know I live in Vegas. I can tell you that the slot machines no longer spew forth coins. They spit out a paper ticket with a bar code and the dollar amount on it and when it's printing your ticket it makes a clincking sound. Lame. Also, there are no playboy bunnies hanging around the poker tables at all times unless you are hugh hefner and you are in the playboy suite at the Palms.

Sorry, hope I haven't dashed your hopes too much. It's still hella fun though. If you're a tourist. For us locals, not so much.

Women should not go to the gym to "bulk up". Women should be fit, but too muscular is a major turn-off for me.

Leighann (x2): Ramen is good and quick... hmmm - what am I really talking about here?

You're the defending champ, but the comment battle is tough these days ;)

Mike: Ramen and college go hand in hand, from what I hear.
