Funday Sunday: "Fawlty Towers"

This week I bring you a clip from one of the funniest ever shows on television. The Brittish comedy series Fawlty Towers, where John Cleese plays the role of a hotel owner. This series had me laughing to the point of falling out of my couch at times. The clip is one in which he serves some German guests in the restaurant... he's obsessing a little about the war (The War, of course, being WWII).

I thought I'd offer you a little recipe today as well. Everybody seems to be doing it lately, and I don't want to be left out... so here is something that's really quick and easy to make, and yet mighty tasty - give it a try.

Pasta with Tuna:

1/2 onion
1 1/2 cup crushed tomatoes
4 tablespoons tomato ketchup
1/2 cup water
2 teaspoons honey
1 cube vegetable bouillon
1 can of tuna (6-7 ounces)
1/2 cup fresh parsley (chopped)
1/3 - 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Serve with
Pasta
Salad
Parmesan cheese

Here's how to do it:

Chop onions... how hard is that? Breathe through your mouth to prevent your eyes from tearing up. I'm a regular Martha Stewart, am I not?

Brown the onions in bottom of pot. Use olive oil for best results.

Add rest of ingredients, stir and bring to a simmer. Allow to cook for about two-three minutes.

Serve it up with pasta, some tomatoes and a salad. Garnish with some more fresh parsley.

Eat and enjoy!

I have always been a huge fan of British humor - this clip was no exception!

The tuna with pasta surprised me! When I read the title I was thinking along the lines of tuna caserole (BLECH!) - this looks VERY good!

that's living outside the pantry box. ~heh~
~giggling~

Casdok: Fawlty Towers was one of the best shows ever!

Dana: Some British humor is good, some of it I can't stand... Monty Python and anything John Cleese does, however, always rocks!

Try the tuna - let me know what you think!

Naughty Lakota: I'd rather live inside the panty box... hmmm - that was lame!

Actually that tickled me.
Yeah. Right there. ~wink~

I LOVE Faulty Towers! And Are you Being Served and Keeping Up Appearances. I know that's spelled wrong but I'm too lazy to go look up the corect spelling. Anyway, there is nothing like those British comedies.

And I am very impressed with your recipe, it sounds really good and you did a great job on presentation. I hope you do more of these - I love to cook and I'm always looking for new recipes.

lovins!

Good old Fawlty Towers... I used to watch BritComs with my parents every weekend when I was living at home. In high school, I had friends who could recite Monty Python skits word for word. One guy had the ENTIRE script of the Holy Grail memorized, and performed it for us on the bus on a school trip. I can't think of any current comedy group that is so well-loved today.

another great start to my Sunday - thanks!

John cleese is priceless.

the tuna/pasta dish looks yummy. now I'm thinking you and Jay could do a cooking show.

"2 Single Guys and a Wok" or
better yet - "Cooking for Chicks"

Happy Sunday

"Faulty Towers" is part of our regular Saturday Night PBS line-up here. "Keeping Up Appearances" has always been my favorite, but they are all damn funny. If PBS ever changes their schedule I'll have to just get them on DVD.

That's a good looking dinner there mate. I was a little leery of it when you said "Tuna" but it actually looks good. I might have to try that!

I love me some John Cleese! but I also Love to Laugh!

Hey your dinner looks yummy, I am allergic to onions so when I get there can you make me some minus the onions? LOL!!

Smooches!

I never heard of Fawlty Towers, but that clip was funny. I am personally impressed with your plating skills. Fancy.

Wow do you always go to such fancy lengths when making dinner for just yourself? I have to say, I never garnish anything I make because I feel like it's a waste of time because I'm the only one who ever sees it before it gets eaten!

I'm SO glad you put up a clip of Fawlty Towers. My dad has that show on DVD, and we think it HI-larious! :)

thanks for bringing back a bit of "Farty Towels"! My family all watched that show together as I was growing up - we always had a good laugh together with this show!

"Do you want something to drink before the war?"

Ha!

The tuna looks divine!

I am in love with John Cleese. Seriously. He would make my top five men list. Thanks for making my day!

I LOVE this show!!!

I don't understand crushed tomatoes.

My sledgehammer AND kitchen get messy, and I don't get any tomatoes.

Help?

Naughty Lakota: So you are... ticklish? ;)

Fiwa: I'm not sure I've seen either of those other two, to be honest. I'll have to look it up.

The recipe thing... yeah, I might do those every now and then.

Sparkling Red: The Monty Python group were indeed a bunch of funny guys. Though, I much preferred their comedy show, as opposed to the movies they made. The Holy Grail was one of their best movies though.

Dianne: "Two Single Guys & A Wok" sounds too much like "Two Single Guys Out Of Luck"... so let's name the show "Cooking for Chicks" - yeah, I like that. And, we could have half naked cheerleader girls on there! ;)

Jay: "Keeping Up Appearances" again... I'll definitely have to look this one up.

You don't like tuna? Tuna is Yummy! ;)

Single In The City: Just for you, I'll make a special batch minus the onions when you come over.

Karen: Never heard of Fawlty Towers? Go get the DVD's - its probably the funniest show ever.

Emmeline: I rarely garnish the food for myself... just did a little extra here since I meant to take pics and post them here ;)

Normally, I just slap the food onto the plate and shove it into my mouth.

Raven: That one is one of the best episodes for sure. I also love the one when he's obsessing about people having sex, and... damn - they're ALL awesome!

Farmer*s Wife: Serve it up and don't tell'em it's tuna ;)

R.E.H. said...

Akelamalu: You should try it... it IS good!

Jen: I loved how that sign out front always read different misspellings of the words. "Fatty Owls" comes to mind... LOL!

Divine, huh? Thanks!

Knight: I'm up there too, right? In the top five? ;)

Odd Facts: It is an ODD show, isn't it? ;)

Mike: You have to get a shovel and scoop them up from the walls and the floors...

...or, you can just buy them at the store in a can. ;)

Jan said...

OMG! You can cook too! Geezums! What else can you do? No, you better not answer that! You sure make it look mighty yummy!

Knight: Glad to hear it! I was getting jealous of Mr. Cleese there for a second! ;)

Single In The City: For you? Sure, I'll make sure you are happy.

Tequila Mockingbird: 1. You and I could cuddle up in a love seat and watch Fawlty Towers and have a laugh then!

2. What is it with the onion bashing? Alright, alright - you and Single can have an onion free serving, made just for you. Just so you know, though... I freakin' LOVE onions!

3. And, why wasn't I invited? ;)

Anndi said...

I LOVE Basil!!

Now, when you come visit I'll be sweet and help you cook that. ;)

What is it about bachelors & ketchup? My dad can work miracles with it from his college days.

I'm so impressed, that looks really yummy. You're going to wow a woman when you cook for her...dinner will probably get cold while she pounces on you.

R.E.H. said...

Jo: You know, ketchup is one of those things, like onions, that you can use in just about everything. It is yummy!
