Nothingness Ramblings

Now... I didn't have anything to say today, really. So I wasn't going to post anything... really.

Then, I thought to myself, when you have nothing to say - what do you do?

You ramble!

Ramble on about nothing and anything, and find out what comes out of your fingertips and onto the keyboard. It is interesting, in it's own way, to see some text devolop on screen while you are barely aware of what you are writing, and where this is headed... so bare with me - this might be a strange and uninteresting read.

KEYS: I'm gonna have to go back to my old/sorta current job tomorrow and hand in the keys that I still carry. They called me the other day and wanted me to bring them in, after which I told them I do not give my keys away until I sign the papers that say I've done so... if some other moron loses the keys, I'm not going to be held responsible. So, that'll be done tomorrow - then there is only two more weeks that the place will pay me, so I better get my ass out of this chair and start looking seriously for some jobs.

THE GYM: Still going there as much as I can - just got home after a third straight day. Did some work on my back and the triceps today... my legs are still hurting from Tuesday's session. I had been neglecting the legs for a while, and sort of decided to work them extra hard - to get back on track with them... boy did I suffer yesterday for that one! Love it!

RANDOMNESS: Did you all know that I have a thing for randomness? Well, I may have created a little something that most people are going to think is outrageously nuts - but I enjoy it immensely. See... I dabble a little in computer programming... well - that's pretty much a lie. I have a piece of software which makes a little computer programming so easy a five year old could almost make their own games. A lot of drag and drop functions, but you can use code to make more complex stuff - and this is what I dabble in.

Ok, ok, already! What is this crazy thing you have done?

I have made a little program which randomizes a weekly menu for me. Yes, a weekly menu of what I shall serve myself for dinner each day. I can easily add all my leftovers stashed in the freezer (and I have a lot of food in there - I always make 3-4 servings, eat one and freeze the rest). I can also add into the mix some new recipes that I want to try out, a bunch of dinners that I often make... then - at the click of a button, a menu pops up, and I go with it for the entire week. Not only does it save me from thinking about what I should eat each day, it also makes sure that I eat those leftovers in the freezer.

I started this little project this week.

I am pretty sure this makes me the only person on the planet who has a randomized weekly menu...

And you guys thought I had an ounce of sanity? No, sir. I'm as looney as they come!

And... at risk of sounding conceited or pompous - well, I've been given yet another award. My favorite little Single Girl in the City bestowed me with the "Gratitude with an Attitude" Award... how sweet is that?

Now, I'm going to pass this baby along - but I'll get back to you on that one, because today I'm not really functioning as well as I like to when deciding who gets an award and who doesn't (this time). So keep your eyes peeled for when I announce the "winners" of this particular one.

In the meantime - if you haven't checked her out (I sure have!). Go visit Single In The City and marvel in her fun posts, and her wonderful persona. She's well worth a visit... or even a little bit of a stalking - just don't scare her... because then I'll have to come after you, and it's not going to be pretty... LOL!

BLOGGING: I haven't been the best of bloggie friend of late. I'm not able to make my rounds to you all and comment like I used to. Part of that is that I've been spending more time out of the house (shocking, eh?), at the gym and out with some of my friends. Part of that is lack of inspiration for blogging of late. I'm sure I'll get back to my usual self in that respect soon enough. Just, you know, if you don't see me at your place for a couple of days or so - it doesn't mean I don't love you anymore.

I still love y'all!

PFC: Oh! Almost forgot! It's about time I remind you all of the Picture Fiction Challenge! It is due next Wednesday... the 16th! I hope you all are finishing up, or touching up, your contributions! It looks like it will be an interesting one this month!

yay! I love randomness, and you touched on a key interest of mine, there, programing...if you were a girl and I wasn't married to a terrific gal....oh, if, if, if...What a wonderful little program you've developed with the menu toss up! you should take that idea and market it.

Well, thank goodness you are becoming more social! Does that mean your multiple-personality disorder is on the back-burner??

Seriously, you should feel good just relaxing a little, kicking back and enjoying life.

A randomized weekly food menu? Brilliant! I wonder if I could just put in all the places in my neighborhood that I eat at and then I won't have to stress about it after work. It's the loony people that have the best ideas you know.
The leg burn of a good work out is a rewarding one. Just make sure you will be able to walk the next day.

Another award - congratulations. :)
That one is really cute - I wonder who comes up with all of these?

I like the idea of your random menu, that's pretty smart. I try to plan my week's menu on Saturday and shop for it all at once, otherwise I will eat out the entire week out of laziness.

Take care -
fiwa

The randomizer is cool. I also like Knight's idea of putting a bunch of restaurants into a randomizer and have it tell me where I'm eating each night. If I could afford to eat out each night, that is.

[WTH? d@mn thing!] Bloggie ate my comment!

The randomizer meal plan is a great idea! You could sell it. Make it a cheap little disk available at the register as people check out from the grocery store.

You have all these great little ideas. I still have that idea I mentioned in another post about something else you do -- that could be used for some bucks.

Working out: Don't get too lean and mean, okay? We women like a strong, man with a little meat on his bones! (Well, "I" do, anyhow...it might be just a Southern thing) ;o)

DH was about 185 at 6'1 when we met. When he wore "Wranglers" he looked too thin. He's stayed at a steady 195-200 over the last multiple years. He looks good!

Later Gator! Thanks for the "ramblings!"

I am happy to give you that award and many awards to come after that! Be good and that is good thinking about eating.. I am one that throws food away after awhile!!

Be good and keep on resting you need it, you have earned it!

let's do that again.

Good to hear you've been out with friends. Good to know you've been out in general.

Any dates?

Two weeks... Two... Weeks...

Good luck with the job search.

You are like an award magnet. Insane. If you win a Grammy or something this year, I won't be surprised.

Jo said...

Congrats on the award! It's such a sweet one...I saw the meaning behind it on Dianne's blog. You're so loved.

I'm glad you're getting out more! It's good for you & in the long run good for your blog--more juicy stories for us.

Good luck on the job search, 2 weeks isn't such a long time--are you practicing interview skills? I always had to do that so I didn't make funny faces.

Your menu randomizer is so clever, so what if it's quirky, it's really practical! I used to be a programmer, so I confess I've created software for some personal weirdnesses---our book collection is really important to us but they're just all over the house in shelves, closets, sometimes we lend them out...so I have them catalogued in a program. I don't send overdue notices LOL

Jeff B said...

and you thought you didn't have anything to say today.

In order to blog about life we have to get out to experience it too.

Good luck on the job search.

PFC is just about buttoned up.

Fortune Cookies: You're a programmer too? Nice. I do have a few "big projects" that I've been wanting to do - that I could possibly make good money from... maybe some day I'll reveal those ideas in a blog.

Dana: Well, my MPD is always there ;) But, yeah - it's nice to get out there some more and have me some fun.

Knight: You could easily put in all your neighborhood restaurants and diners or whatever into my little "weekly menu randomizer".

And, I could barely walk right after the workout - not to mention next day... but, I love that - you just gotta get up and walk no matter how much it hurts ;)

Fiwa: Thanks. That's a cute award from a cute gal!

With the randomizer, I will randomize each Sunday night - that way on Monday morning I can go out and do the necessary shopping for the week too.

Jay: You could even mix the restaurants with home-cooking, and that way the randomizer decides which days you eat out, and which days you eat home... nifty, huh? ;)

R.E.H. said...

Farmer*s Wife: I doubt I could sell the randomizer... it is a little too buggy for that - and I don't feel like erasing those bugs... I can work around them for my own personal use.

Oh, yes - I almost forgot about that idea of yours...

And, I've gained a little again - just over 200 now (so I gotta watch myself). Some of that is added muscles, but there's some flab there as well. I do like me some meat on my bones, but I prefer real beef, as opposed to pork ;)

Single In The City: You just being here is a great "award" in itself ;)

Don't throw food away! That is no good...

Naughty Lakota: How could I not love you??? Sheez! Just look at that nice new profile pic... mumma!

Unsigned: Not any dates in the traditional sense, no... maybe I'll get back to you all on that ;)

Yeah, I need a lot of luck in that job hunt...

Karen: Yeah, I'm going to need a new server to host all those award images pretty soon ;)

About the Grammy, though - that would surprise me. But, if it happens - that means I've had a very successful year ;)

Jo: Thanks!

I'm not practicing my interview skills. I have good faith in my people skills, and usually do ok in those situations... more of a problem is education and experience. Loyalty used to be a problem, since they saw I changed jobs quite often - now at least I have four years in one place to show...

And, I have created quite a few nifty little programs for personal use... a home poker-game statistics program, which has become wildly popular among my friends... another randomizer program (simply called Randomizer), which draws a random item out of a large database of entries, which you can even specify a percentage chance for. I have one near completed (and fully playable)... damn - maybe this all needs a post of it's own...

I have catalogued my movies and my music in programs that I didn't make myself though. I found some good ones that I liked so I didn't need to make my own ;)

R.E.H. said...

Jeff B: Yeah, I seem to have a way to ramble some stuff ;) Not sure it's always very interesting, but what the heck, right?

Will be looking forward to your PFC next week!

Guilty Secret said...

Wow, you are deciding what to eat using a randomised weekly menu?

REH, you have officially lost it. Congratulations.

:-D

Leighann said...

What happens if your little menu randomizer comes up with something you're just not in the mood for?

That would throw a wrench into my whole day and cause my head to explode *giggle*

Dianne said...

I enjoy when you just ramble. And it doesn't read like ramble.

good luck on interviews, I did a lot of that last fall and each one got easier. actually I went on a couple of interviews for jobs I didn't want - such a freedom in not caring about the outcome that it lets you practice your interview face - I tend to look annoyed by stupid questions, not a good idea.

the PFC has me stymied at the moment but I'll pull through. I will right? Just say yes.

Akelamalu said...

A randomised weekly menu - now there's food for thought! ;)

Melissa said...

I LOVE the randomized weekly menu thing - what a great idea!

Anonymous said...

I like the menu idea. Very cool. If I had something like that it might persuade me to cook more often.

I might cheat on the PFC this time. Or break rules or whatever you want to call it. I'm not feelin it. But, I also haven't tried to write anything yet. Maybe I'll try this weekend.

What about your Ireland trip? Any more developments there? Will you still be taking it?

Good luck looking for your job. I've been wondering about that lately too.

And hey, as a follow-up to my most recent post that you enjoyed so much . . . I now have a dildo. :)

I love the menu randomizer. If I lived alone, I might have to create one for myself. 9 days out of 10 I hate having to choose what I eat. I'd rather eat the same things over and over, or just have a plate put in front of me by someone else. As it is, I let my husband act as a randomizer.

I love random thoughts too.. Nothing better.

sweetie, I love your blog. It's fabulous reading.
On the Gym...I love the burn, don't you? I work out with a radio celeb every Tuesday and Thursday morning. What to work out with us? She is so a hard body and so very cute, makes working out something a gal looks forward to hehehe. I've had to cancel last week and this week...cause I had the flu/cold.

Have a fab weekend babes.

Constance said...

I like the idea of a randomized weekly menu. Especially since I eat the same things for about 4 months in a row :)

Spending time out of the house, with friends, and at the gym is a good thing.

Anonymous said...

That random menu sounds like such a fun idea! Good thinking.

Also, when you mentioned working your legs, I wondered are you like most men at the YMCA that I attend in that you work your calves?

There's actually a device that you sit in and lift the weight with your knees by pushing up with your toes. Do you know what I mean?

I always find it so funny that men want to have well-defined calves. Mine are usually larger than the men I run into, even though I don't do anything to isolate and exercise them.

If you do exercise them, can you explain to me the concept. It just strikes me funny that a man would even care about his calves.

Angela said...

Only comment when you have time. :) I never EXPECT people to comment. It's always a joyous surprise when they do.

Anndi said...

Want to tell me what to eat too? That randomizer would probably make my life a lot easier...

You'll find a great new challenge in this job hunt of yours. There are days when I tell myself maybe I should start looking, just to see what's out there.

Oh, and you deserve that award sweets...

I can relate to the being a poor bloggie friend, lots of "other" stuff going on. Glad that you are getting to the gym regularly, me notsomuch.

Good luck on the job hunt!! Get out there and get you some! :)

Guilty Secret: Thank You! Can I now officially consider myself certifiable?

Leighann: Not to worry, I have thought of everything. If for whatever reason I cannot, or will not eat what is scheduled for the day - I can cancel that meal, and return it to the random pool ;)

Dianne: Maybe that's why I don't think the interviews are the hard part. I don't want most jobs... I've been doing some thinking, and I can't come up with anything that I really want to do (that I am qualified to do)... maybe it is time to go back to school?

Akelamalu: food for thought... LOL! ;)

Melissa: And, it's working great for me so far. I have followed it and enjoyed doing so. Maybe I'll offer this thing as a download? ;)

R.E.H. said...

Emmeline: One of the reasons behind the menu idea was in fact to "force" me to cook more varied foods and new foods that I haven't tried yet.

Hope you get that PFC together.

The Ireland trip is still a possibility. We're getting together to discuss it in a while - but the other guy got a new job, and doesn't know how much vacation time he'll be able to get, yet.

I now have a dildo.

Hey! Who turned up the heat in here? Why do I feel so hot all of a sudden?

Sparkling Red: I remember living back home with moma! All you had to do was sit down at the table and eat... that is paradise!

Doc: The good thing about random thoughts is that they can be anything ;)

Single In The City: Had a couple of good days actually. Hope you did too - I've missed ya, you know!

Spiky Zora Jones: From what I've been reading about you and that radio celeb over at your place, I'll be right there - ready to ... ahem ... work out! ;)

Hope you kick that cold and get back in the groove!

R.E.H. said...

Loving Annie: I do (did) that too - well, not four months in a row... but very often I would opt for something quick and usually lacking nutrients...

Cardiogirl: Of course I work my calves! The concept behind that is that as I'm a guy - I want muscular looking legs too. Don't you think that it looks good on a guy?

Women (in my opinion) should go to the gym to stay in shape - trim, slim and lean - but NOT muscular. A guy needs to be all muscles!

At least... that's what we want to be...

~Angela~: Good advice. My problem is that I want to comment all of the time.

Anndi: Maybe, if I find the time, I'll make a revised version of the Menu Maker and offer it as a download... seems to be very popular ;)

Yeah - I'm not too positive about the job hunt right now, but I'll find something to earn me some money ;)

TT: Breathe?

*gasp*

Oh, thanks... I totally forgot ;)

Glad you enjoy my randomness.

R.E.H. said...

Karen: Aw, thanks! Really, that was a heartwarming comment to read after I've been out a couple of days... I've missed you all too.

Ginormous Boobs: Randomness is an awesome thing... I can't explain it - but I am always amazed about it.

Single In The City: I missed you to babe!

*smooches*

Naughty Lakota: I iz good. Kisses and hugs - now I iz better!

Butterfly Girl: You'll make somebody a great housewife and mommy one day!

That's it! No more cooking for me!

Woman! Fetch me a beer! And, why, woman - why do I not smell pot roast yet? A man needs to eat, you know!

;)

R.E.H. said...

Tequila Mockingbird: I won't be away from you for too long, you know that? Missed you too!

And, exactly how would you go about inspiring me? ;)

G-Man: I guess I've only recently realized that I need to get a new job real quick, as time is running out ;)

There might be periods in which I don't have the time to blog, but I will try my very hardest.

Tink said...

You made a computer program that makes you a random menu each week? *blink blink*

That's freakin' awesome! I need me one of those. I hate having to decide what to cook. This could be it REH, the invention that makes you rich.

R.E.H. said...

Tink: Ha! And here I was thinking this was something no one would have an interest in. In all honesty - I thought you were all going to call the funny farm on me after I mentioned that... ;)
